Lectures on the Curry-Howard isomorphism.Morten Heine Sørensen - 2007 - Boston: Elsevier. Edited by Paweł Urzyczyn.
The Curry-Howard isomorphism states an amazing correspondence between systems of formal logic as encountered in proof theory and computational calculi as found in type theory. For instance, minimal propositional logic corresponds to simply typed lambda-calculus, first-order logic corresponds to dependent types, second-order logic corresponds to polymorphic types, sequent calculus is related to explicit substitution, etc. The isomorphism has many aspects, even at the syntactic level: formulas correspond to types, proofs correspond to terms, provability corresponds to inhabitation, proof normalization corresponds to (...)

    “Allow natural death” versus “do not resuscitate”: three words that can change a life.S. S. Venneman, P. Narnor-Harris, M. Perish & M. Hamilton - 2008 - Journal of Medical Ethics 34 (1):2-6.
Physician-written “do not resuscitate” DNR orders elicit negative reactions from stakeholders that may decrease appropriate end-of-life care. The semantic significance of the phrase has led to a proposed replacement of DNR with “allow natural death” . Prior to this investigation, no scientific papers address the impact of such a change. Our results support this proposition due to increased likelihood of endorsement with the term AND.

  34. Psychology: The propaedeutic science.S. S. Stevens - 1936 - Philosophy of Science 3 (1):90-103.
Previous claims that psychology is propaedeutic to the other sciences have been met with enthusiastic indifference. Contributing to this indifference has been the fact that psychology, a young and unproved discipline which habitually borrowed the methods of the older sciences, has too frequently revised its notion as to its own nature and subject-matter. More important, however, has been the faith of the physical sciences in the absolute character of their own basic concepts: in the reality of Absolute Space and Absolute (...)

    Exploration of Complex Dynamics for Cournot Oligopoly Game with Differentiated Products.S. S. Askar, Mona F. El-Wakeel & M. A. Alrodaini - 2018 - Complexity 2018:1-13.
This paper proposes a Cournot game organized by three competing firms adopting bounded rationality. According to the marginal profit in the past time step, each firm tries to update its production using local knowledge. In this game, a firm’s preference is represented by a utility function that is derived from a constant elasticity of substitution production function. The game is modeled by a 3-dimensional discrete dynamical system. The equilibria of the system are numerically studied to detect their complex characteristics due (...)

    Hanf number for Scott sentences of computable structures.S. S. Goncharov, J. F. Knight & I. Souldatos - 2018 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 57 (7-8):889-907.
The Hanf number for a set S of sentences in \ is the least infinite cardinal \ such that for all \, if \ has models in all infinite cardinalities less than \, then it has models of all infinite cardinalities. Friedman asked what is the Hanf number for Scott sentences of computable structures. We show that the value is \. The same argument proves that \ is the Hanf number for Scott sentences of hyperarithmetical structures.
